    Trani Seal Leakin

hey guy when i got my 89' grand marquis the owner told me that he went to a garage to get his trani fluid change but he said that they put on the wrong filter so some times when you take a turn or put the foot down or even just crusing is slips for about 4-6 seconds then kicks back into gear so i wanted to know if i get my oil and filter changed is it worth it or i should i just replace the trani since in might be on its way out and there is a seal underneath that is leaking and i dont want to pay to fix it since i have to drop it to do it please let me know what you think thanks.

if they admitted to putting on the wrong filter they should have paid for a new transmission.. if he just thinks that and doesn't know for sure, it's most likely just failing from changing the fluid and filter for the first time in 15 years.

it wouldn't hurt to drop the pan and look but i would probably be looking into a new one.

a fluid, filter and pan gasket change is going to cost you $50. It's easy to do yourself.
      A rebuilt transmission = $1200 +/-

$50 is cheap on the outside chance that putting in the right filter and fresh fluid will give you a decent transmission again.
Weirder things have happened. You could be having a day where luck is on your side.

If not, you were looking at a rebuild anyway.

Could be sucking air when the fluid sloshes. I'd change that fluid and filter and hope.

Flushing it won't help. The pan needs to come off if there is a problem with the filter. Could even be a case of the gasket wasn't installed between the filter and the valve body.

Or the pan could be crushed in a wee bit...but I'm leaning more towards low fluid level, if it's doing it in corners.

at people taking their junk to a transmission shop for every little thing ... transmission shops don't care if your stuff works or not.
