I would probably not be running an HEI distributor if I wanted an MSD unit to control the ignition. Just seems messy, though I guess it is possible. If you remove the stock GM ignition module and feed the pickup direct to the MSD unit, it will allow control, but really the whole appeal of the HEI dizzy is the fact that its self-contained. If you want to do an MSD box, either use a Duraspark dizzy or an MSD one and just feed the box from that.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).
