    AC issues

A few questions, my AC was having an issue, when i stepped on the throttle the air would come out hot and by the deforst vents, i checked the line heading to the 'soup can' and sure enough it was cracked so i bought vacuum line and patched it up, i also re-did the black and blue vacuum lines that run from the firewall to the sensor on a heater hose, leading to the heater core. All was fine for a little while, but now when i turn on the AC in the morning(only in the morning, or after car has been off for over 8 hrs) i hear a loud THUMP coming from what seems to be behind my glove box, also while the ac is on, the collector(silver thing that sweats) is making a clicking sound every 10 seconds or so and it seems my compressor turns on and off, i can post a vid if needed. The Ac blows fine on low but on MED or HIGH it feels like its not getting enough freon. Is there a clog maybe by the collector or one of the lines?

The thump is the recirc door opening or closing. Nothing to be concerned about.

The compressor cycling sounds like low charge if I had to guess. Can't see the video tho.

looks like low charge, or its just not hot enough outside to run full time. Running the blower on low will also cause this. Theres actually a chart in the factory manuals that shows inside vent temps, clutch cycle times, and clutch cycle frequency based on the outside temperature. Basically when its cooler out, the clutch is supposed to cycle to keep the evaporator from freezing.

Check the pressures before doing anything. Adding too much can cause even more problems.

Good idea. I learned not to mess with the system without proper equipment the hard way and it cost me $800 and a new a/c system.

The pressure cycling switch may also be causing issues....but if it's going into the shop....make sure it's a good one.

yea I trust this shop, they maintain my work truck , a 1993 isuzu FRR, which they keep running great and they recently fixed the A/c in my bosses 99 Regal which had the climate control all screwed up. Wheres the Pressure cycling switch located?

so that piece comes off and can be replaced or can it be regulated?

Yes, and yes. There is an adjustment screw under where the plug is. Do not adjust this without a proper set of guages, or you can really get things screwed up. To replace, just unthread it. There is a valve in the accumumator so you won't lose the charge. A bit of gas may come out but that should be the worst of it. Don't crank the new on on there real tight, its just plastic.
