I decided to dig into my fuel smell problem. I thought it was coming from under the hood. The injectors don't leak. I had this problem when the stock injectors were in it and I have this problem after the new injectors and o rings went it. There isn't any leaks anywhere. No wet lines, no puddles on the ground, not even any dried fuel stains on the tank. I started looking into the charcoal canister. I've read they can fill with fuel. No problems there. I then started checking the lines to and from the can. Other than being a little old they didn't have any problems.
Blowing into the line from the charcoal canister to the tank I heard a hissing sound. I followed this sound all the way back to where the line hooks up to the tank. It connects to it on the very top, where you can't reach, and not the sending unit. If the tank was sealed it wouldn't hiss. Am I right in this assumption? It also doesn't hold any pressure or vacuum.
Are these tanks prone to rotting out at the top? The rest of the tank seems very solid. I sure don't want to drop the tank on this almost 20 year old beast.
