Harbor Freight has a cheap $10 timing light that works great.

I've got an 86 CV with 104xxx miles and it has the erratic idle sometimes and stumbles in OD alot also ive always suspected the egr valve but ive cleaned it with no result.

I have the same issue. I keep all the regular tune up items such as plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor button, fuel filter, air filter, up to snuff. I have replaced the coil already and clean the EGR and IAC motor regularly. Plug gap is set to .050, which is between the spec range of .048-.052 as listed on my fan shroud.
Under light acceleration, it bucks, spits, tugs, and misses in the worst kind of a way. Once in to one of those fits it will surge at idle, such as when stopped at a light. Knock it in neutral, give it a good shot of gas, it clears and idles OK. In motion, kick it down and it takes off, runs perfectly, then slack off the accelerator, and usually it starts acting up again, but not always.
Kind of embarassing when you have a little honey in the car trying to make her feel at home, if you know what I mean

So.. the O2 sensor was bad and the ECM was bad? or the O2 sensor caused the ECM to be confused?

                            I don't get a code for O2 sensor...

well. it appears my problem was the fuel injectors. I swapped in a cleaned set and it runs great now.
