I believe the consensus is that it causes almost no drag.

the short belt doesn't fit my car.... not even close.
my air pump locked up and started making all sorts of noises, so I remove it and all the plumbing, makes the engine much easier to work on.

the pulley is aligned as best I can tell. I see what GL is talking about in the picture, it must be the camera angle, but I can take some meaurements to make sure.

I did find a nick in the compressor pulley... gonna file that out and put a new belt on.

played around with this a little more yesterday.
I found numerous nickes in the metal pulley on the AC compressor and on the nylon pulley on the smog pump delete kit. I filed them all smooth.
also did some more measuring, discovered the bottom side of the bracket was a tad shorter than the top side, this was causing the bracket to angle downward.
I fixed that and moved the bracket back a touch more.

Previously I had installed an old style tensioner, trying to make the short belt fit.
so I put on a new AC belt and swapped the original tensioner back on.

Took the car for 60mile drive on the hwy... AC belt never came off.

fingers crossed its fixed, for now.

200+ miles on the car yesterday. AC belt stayed on and doesnt show any signs of accelerated wear.
now I Ineed to figure out how to make the AC cool better.

R134a? Best bet from what I've been told is an electric fan. They will make sure it cools nice no matter what speed the car is at. At idle, from what I've heard is poor with 134a. With the electric fan you will notice that the ac blows colder at idle. I thought mine blew fine at idle, it was cold. Whatever. You should try that if you want it cooler mang.

I need to play with the charge in the Towncar. It cools, but it doesn't get as cold as it should. The Mark VII, which by most accounts has an inferior AC system, is much colder. I've got the electric fan and all that stuff. The system is new, but I think its maybe a little over-charged or something.

No idea, I didn't have a machine. I was just using a bottle and a set of gauges.

I did a shit job on my 134a conversion and it was blowing 38 degrees. The electric fan I added didn't do dick, so I took it off. All I did was change the dryer and the o rings, and then had it checked for leaks, and charged. Didn't even do the orifice tube. The issue with my car was, the blower didn't blow hard enough.

when I got the car, it was around 38, now I think I'm at 46 last I checked? Not as cold as it used to be or should be. As usual, I do everything the right way and it doesn't work right. I really should start half-assing things more often. It seems to give better results.
