No need to go mass air to do an HO swap. Honestly I find dealing with the EFI far easier than converting to a carb. I'm not particularly good with carbs, and I hate having to dicker with things to get them just so. My EFI car I just turn the key in any weather and drive down the road. As for making power, if you stick a 4bbl on the stock motor, its not going to make any more power. The EFI isn't a performance bottleneck on a lopo. As for accessibility, its personal preference. OK, changing valve covers on a carb motor is easier, but if you use good valve covers you don't have to touch it again, making it sort of a moot point. There really isn't much else you need to mess with on an EFI motor on a regular basis that the intake makes it more difficult to access. If something should require removal, its only about 15 minutes to remove the thing.
Also, its been proven that an EFI Ford will start and idle on 3 year old gas without issues. I've seen it with my own eyes, and the gas in that car *stunk*.
