If you're running otherwise stock exhaust, I don't think you'll have much problem no matter what muffler you put on there. If you do have intolerable drone issues, whacking the tailpipe and installing short glasspacks as a resonator in that straight section behind the rear wheel will likely fix it. The gears also help with this believe it or not. The drone issues seem worst right around 1800 rpm in most vehicles, but with a 3.55 that ends up being somewhere around 45-50 in overdrive and most people don't spend a lot of time there. With taller gears, the drone moves up right to highway speeds and thats annoying.

I vaguely remember being pleased with the sound of Flowmasters on an 87 Mustang. They'd sound nice when you hit it, and a very subdued rumble with no resonance or droning.
I assume that those would be Flowmaster 40s? Is that the numbering system? Lower number is quieter?
Not that I want to shell out the cash for Flowmasters, mind you.1987 Ford LTD Crown Victoria 2-door Coupe - perpetually "sort of" for sale...

10 series is loudest, then the 30 series, and 40 series are not really as bad as some people say , 50 is quieter, and there is a quieter one yet 70 series?
60 and 80 series are an exception to the numbering system, seems to me that they were a bit louder.1990 LTD Crown Vic w/ dead 5.0

The original 40 Series (two-chamber) is one of the loudest. The 50 Series (3-chamber) is quieter, and the 70 Series quieter still. The 80 Series, on the other hand, is a wild crossflow design that's supposed to be even louder than the 40. Then they have the Delta Flow variants of the 40 and 50 Series, and the 30 Series "Top 10 Street & Strip", as I think it's called, and the new Super 44 ...................... I'm probably still missing a couple, though. Oh, and you can't forget the Delta Force race mufflers ..... :p
I don't think I'd ever heard of the 10 and 60 Series ... were those some of the race muffler designs?2012 Mazda5 Touring | Finally working on the LTD again!
