    Lopo 302 Bottom end strength?

Hey guys, I was wondering how much power the bottom end of the factory 302 (lopo) from an '84 can handle without eating itself up. I plan on upgrading to a better engine later, but in the meantime I want to have some fun with it. Also - what is the weak link in the engine? Thanks!

ive put down more than 200hp on a 200k lopo converted to ho specs. Nitrous and power adders are asking for trouble.

What's the weak link? Cast pistons?

The pistons are definitely not the strong point, lol...

A mild cam, decent set of heads, and a good intake/4bbl/headers/exhaust will definitely rock and roll. I did that on my 84 longblock (minus the heads of course lol) and it woke right up! CFI sucks!

ya, its still the same block but not having the forged pistons would be the weak link.

and ford really cut down on the amount of steel that went into the late model roller motors and they have a tendency to litteraly split in half at high RPMs so alot of people add main guridles to their built motors

I ran around 360 to 370 HP on Badger pistons turned 12.2s with a 3.08 rear and 5sp in a 84 Mustang. put around 160K on it before pulling the running engine and dropped a hard core 1970 Boss 302 in it.

              Nice!
I'm still stuck in CFI land. I've seen all the tech articles on a carb conversion and plan on doing it as funds allow.

Has anyone had trouble with the connecting rods?

Yes, I do. Justin has a video somewhere.

As for connecting rods, I don't know of anyone who's broken one here. Streetable RPMs they will live. Do you have the infamous "lopo knock"?

You don't need a lokar cable. The stock rod works fine.
