So in my quest to fix small things that annoy me yesterday I rebuilt the rear passenger side window motor. The little rollers had gone bad. While I had the door panel off, I replaced thed pushclips that hold it on. Since I had extras and the driver's side panel in the back kept coming off I figured I'd replace those clips too. I got the door panel off to find that someone had replaced the window motor on that side in the past with a reman unit. It also has this habit of randomly not working unless I slam the door really hard so I suspect the brushes are messed up or something. Anyway the point of this is the holes that had to be drilled to access the mounting bolts for the window motor were drilled very slopppily and two of the 3 metal screw brackets that are supposed to attach the door panel to the door itself are missing. It looks like whoever did the motor didn't get the other 2 screws out and just yanked on the door panel causing the rivets to pull out. Now even with the new clips the stupid door panel doesn't stay on like it should. I really wish people would pay more attention to stuff like that when they do a repair. Now I'll probably end up replacing the door panel even tho it looks just fine. :cuss:

I know how you feel man. My front doors are the same way. I'm thinking that I might be able to rebuild the cardbord backing so that the push tab slots work again. Maybe a good layer of epoxy, and then dremel out the slot so that I can use the stock tads. Good luck finding that panel. I guess it will be easier since it is the back. I'll never find my driver side front door panel...

Driver's front on mine is a total mess. Someone ripped it off so its broken and has been held together with duct tape for ages. The hinge on that side went bad too, so the door would drop, so between the bad hinge and the panel not being secured my chrome around the door on the outside is ruined and the pillar trim is also trashed. There are a dozen screws run into the door panel in an attempt to hold it together, but the plastic backing has cracked so badly the screws have all pulled through.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Mine are kinda sloppy too. I broke the armrest off the drivers door climbin through the window. Pulled the plastic things out of the door frame. Good luck finding parts to fix those.1989 Grand Marquis LS

My door panel is almost entirely duct tape.
actually the clips you can find at most big auto parts stores. I cleaned the rack off to fix my back door panel and it turns out that without the metal screw brackets on the back of them they will never stay in place. I think I'll find a fucked up one in the junkyard, rip the brackets off and epoxy them or something to my door panel.
My door hinge also sagged, but I replaced the upper one. It would actually drop the door about an inch when it opened before I did that. The lower one is also worn, but not as badly. I have the new one in the trunk but I need time and someone to hold the stupid door while I replace it.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

i actually came across a lone door from a tudor at a junkyard a couple years ago. the thing was dented and rotted, but for the most part was still solid. i picked it up and almost gave myself a hernia. they ARE heavySave a seal, club a liberal.
