EFI 5.0L to EFI 5.8L Swap.

    That scoop looks like its off a pre 87 Mustang GT but just spun 180 degrees.
    * 90 Crown Vic LX HO Powerplant - 2.5" H, no smog/ac, 3.55 k code, diy cai, porter lower intake, underdrive crank, 100a alt.
    * 89 Mustang LX Vert 5.0 5spd 246rwhp 276rwtq - Bolt on's. 351w and TKO600 in the works.
    * 90 GMC Sierra Ext Cab w/carb'd 11:1cr 327
    * 89 E250 Cargo Van - Stock 300 i6, c6, 3.55 open. 75k original miles.

      I just want the extra torque that the increased stroke of a 351W naturally has. At first I wanted to build a 306, then I thought about stroking the engine out to 331, then 347, and I realized that I can probably get the same or better performance out of a 351W. We have the parts now that can make the 5.8L engines move and get good MPGs, so I figured that I would take advantage of that.

        The scoop is off of an '83 GT, and is mounted the correct way...the '79-'81 Cobra and '82 GT scoop looks different, the '84-'86 and 87-93 GT's didn't have scoops (I've owned a 79' Cobra, '82, '83, '84, '85, and '89 GT's...)...

        From what I've seen, the EFI on a 5.8 won't fit under a Box hood.

          5.8, good mpg? Seriously, for a DD, a stock HO is a far better chioce. More displacement means more gas...

          Looks like no matter what a hood scoop and cutting the hood will be required unless you use a different intake, which is going to complicate other things. Any experimenting will mean more days out of service while you tackle the problems...

            I'm thinking that the 5.8 GT40 lower, plus the 94-95 Cobra upper might fit...but I agree, the 5.8 is not a suitable DD.

                Upon initial test fitting for mine, the GT40 on my 5.8 allowed the hood to close correctly. As for the fuel economy, the EFI should be able to get some efficiency out of the larger motor. I'll let you know the results of mine in about 3-4 months.

                And that car made me cream lol. If I do wind up having to mod the hood, that low profile look is EXACTLY what I would aim for; I would not want a ridiculous or super obvious scoop on mine.

                  Really? I thought that car's scoop was too obvious. Must be a way to blend it in better.

                    The old last century 351 EFI swap I saw was in a TC and the kid had the stock hood cut along the lines and had an inch welded in. The thing looked very stock. was very well done.

                        So is the intake clearing the hood the only problem with this swap? All these pics of 5.8's under the hood are making me want to slap one in my 89.
                        '92 F-350 4x4: 7.3 idi, E4OD, 6" all spring Skyjacker lift, 16.5" Mickey Classic II's, 35" BFG's, Loc-Rite Up front, Trac Lock in rear.

                            Just for mpg reference figures, a 4wd truck with a 302 get 15+ highway, 351w efi gets 9. Doesn't matter if its in a bronco or a f250. 9 mpg highway. Good luck with that good gas mileage shit. You figure out how to make it happen let me know.

                              wierd our 400 powered79 bronco gets 13, with a carb, c6, 33's, and 3.50 gears. I still agree though. doubt itll get that great of milage. I dont remeber anyone on corral saying much more than 20 in a 5speed stang for milage with a 351.

                                I agree on the MPG thing. I have an 88 F-250 4x4 with a windsor and the mileage sucks. Even after taking out the c6 and putting in a ZF 5-speed to have an overdrive it's terrible. Not too bad on the highway if you don't drive 80mph everywhere like I do.
