Remind me again, you still have 2.73 gears and your stock lockup converter, correct?

If you want cruise RPMs higher, the way to do it is with rear gears, not adding torque converter slippage. That simply generates heat and wastes fuel. The converter should flash around your torque peak, and should not be used to set the engine rpm at any given speed.

i understand that. the car will see some track time too so having a higher stall converter will help but i dont want it too high. im also looking at a 3.08 rear or trying to find a 3.27 rear somewhere to add some better acceleration and yes better cruise rpms

I'm really looking forward to driving my '81 with the C4 and 3.08 gear.

dunno, I don't get the appeal of a 3 speed transmission in something that actually gets driven regularly at speeds over 50. Not enough gears, and no lockup converter. I guess we could be putting cruise-o-matic 2 speeds in things, that would be worse.

if i was making more money i think i might have considerd rebuilding the AOD and then using a steeper gear like a 3.55 or something but the C4 is cheaper to build. i forget if i mentioned it though but even with my OD gone im still getting 14mpg so i cant imagine it being worse with the C4 though yes it has no lockup

This does seem to be the case. Part of why I mucked with a governor weight instead of the more logical solution of just buying a different governor (a couple of trans builders have insisted there's nothing you can do). What's the deal with that, do most C4 users these days just run a manual valvebody and no governor?

everyone i know with a C4 uses it for a car that sees mostly drag races. so i assume most are running manual valve bodies. which is much better because you get all teh benefits of a manual (except the weight, most 5-speeds are going to be lighter than an automatic) and an automatic

I would have more strongly considered a manual valvebody, but the plan is still for my mom to borrow that car, and she's allergic to anything where she has to tell it what to do.
