    HO shift govnor

    iv been having a hard time looking for this thing since, for some reason, the ford dealers don carry em. is there a web site that i can order this thing from? summit has one listed but not sure if its what i need http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

    and i need to figure out what i need for a speedo gear since my wagon had a mustang rear put in it before i got the car and dont know what kinda gears are in there. its about5-8 MPH slow

    As I understand it, the stock Mustang governor is no longer produced and has become insanely difficult to find.

    That TransGo governor kit looks just like the one I installed in my '88 GM. It came with the HP shift kit. Made a huge difference in the shift behavior. Gave me complete control over the shift points and RPM's.

    However, if you do NOT have the HO conversion, you shouldn't waste your time. Lopo 302 is already in it's power band with the stock governor.

      this is for my HO converted wagon lol....so this i should get?

        This is the first I've heard about a Rustang governor being difficult to locate ... not that I've yet tried locating one myself. Is this a new development?

        As for the gear issue, the gears in your car are probably made of metal.

        More seriously, one trick to finding your rear axle ratio (aka "RAR") is to jack up the rear, put the car in Neutral, and turn the wheels (if it's an open diff, it may be simpler to turn the driveshaft instead). Count number of revolutions of the driveshaft to one turn of the wheels. Round to nearest known production 8.8" gear ratio. Then check which speedo gear you currently have, go to your favorite online speedo gear calculator, and figure out what speedo gear you need. If you remove the diff cover, you can be a bit more precise and even actually count teeth on both the ring and pinion gear if you're ambitious (there may be factory paint marks on one tooth of each gear that could assist you in this process), or else just try to look up the part number if you can find it.

          haha, freakin hilarious!!! ...anyway. im gonna put an order on this plus pick up my trans filter kit and some ATF and do a filter service and the govnor at the same time. i dont wanna take the diff cover off to see what kinda metal the gears ar...sorry...to see what gear ratio i have haha.

            Ho governor has been discontinued by ford. I had a hard time finding one last spring and was told i got one of the last ones in the country.

            I waited over a month before i finally got it..
