    Ring and pinion

I got me a near new perfect shape 3.27 set off of ebay for $20.50 after shipping . How hard is it to DIY a rear end. Never tried before. What else will I need, I'm planning on a cover gasket, speedo gear and new oil. Are there clips, seals, shims, bearings, etc. I will need. Is this a job better handled by proffessionals? I've heard a lot of people say it is real easy, but I never actually witnessed one done.

budget keeps a trac lok out of question.

You'll need a tool to figure out the needed shimms for the pinion gear. Other than that it's not too hard.

Too bad you just bought it though
I just today came in posesion of 3 more sets of gears. So now I have
    1 3.31
1 3.55 (I'm going to use this for mine though )
    2 3.73s
ring and pinion gears. Though I don't think I could ship it for much less than what you paid!

dont bother installing the gears until you get a trac loc, it would be a waste of time! save up $50 to $100 and get a trac loc, i paid $75 for mine on ebay after shipping and it burns both of my 275s without a slip. i installed my rear end, for the first time doing it, and it went without any major problems, i didnt have the correct tools but it came out good..... but make sure you read up about it and get the tools before you start it. it takes 4 hours or more. while you got the rear end apart, consider axle bearing/seals, and a brake upgrade maybe? its better and easier to save up the money and wait, and do everything you wanna do at the same time. have fun!

A guy on carbdford.com pulls a lot of traction-locs out of cars and trucks at the junkyard. He sells them on ebay. His ebay name is carbd86stang. He has 100% feedback so far. I bought a few things from him and sold him some parts for his 86 Mustang project. Maybe check him out.
