    Wiper Problem

So I've run into a small problem.

a few days ago I had to scrape ice off my windshield so I lifted teh passenger side wiper like I normally do to scrape and it felt like something might have snapped. oh noes.
now, normally when the wipers are not on I can move them manually with no resistance at all..which doesn't strike me as normal.

so now, my passenger wiper is dead and only my driver one works.
funny thing, when the driver one is all the way up during it's wipe, the passenger one moves a little...like one inch.
and I can see the passenger one twitches but does not move during the entire wipe of the driver side.
Does this mean I need a new wiper motor? I sure hope not, this motor is only like 2 yrs old...if that.

The wipers are connected to each other with some linkage, check to see if a pin came out of the passenger side linkage, it's done it on my drivers side before, just worn out. If there was something wrong with the motor neither would be working.

I can't honestly remember. There's a few, can't also recall how they are held in, I wanna say it's a cotter pin, but I'm not 100% sure. Should be able to see the whole assembly with the hood open.

it's either the linkage is broke on that side or it's the wiper transmission it's not gonna be the motor if the drivers side is working fine. you might want to see if you can still get a new wiper transmission from team ford while you still can it's around 60.00 will worth to get it

Look, the windshield wipers themselves are connected to each other via a bar. The pins that hold the bar to the wipers are made of plastic. If it were the transmission, NEITHER of the wipers would work.

Here's a diagram I made up. It's oversimplified, but it illustrates how the linkage works. My completely honest suggestion? Go outside and look at it RIGHT now. If It's dark I don't care. The only way you are going to fix it is to go out and LOOK at it. Find out what is wrong.

Sounds like the wiper arm isn't pushed onto the spline shaft fully, or its stripped out. The wiper motor drives the passenger side, then links over to the driver's side. Be sure the arm is pushed fully onto the passenger side shaft. If its spinning inside the arm, hope like hell its the arm. If the spline shaft is stripped, thats part of the transmission which is possibly unobtanium. The arm comes off fairly easily, pift it up, and there is a small tab that you have to lift up. This will lock the arm tilted out, and you can wiggle the arm off the post.

Gimme a holler if something in the transmission is busted - I *think* I've got an extra or two laying around somewhere.

They get sloppy after a while and then they break. If you can find one new, that's a pretty rare find, since Ford declared that obsolete, like everything else in our damn cars. Your best bet would be one from a junkyard, if you can't manage to get that one you have working.

I looked at it and I saw the pin on the driver side was still good but I couldn't find the passenger one as easy..I'll look tomorrow in the light.

Yeah it's tough to see even with the wipers all the way in the up position.
