    ...in a rear-sump dipstick setup? The dipstick goes into the rear sump area of the newer rear-sump oil pan 302's....right through the driver's side of the block....therefore the suction tube would go right into....the rear sump.

    Front-sump 302's, however, do have the dipstick up front.

      Panthers have a dual hump pan. Probably about a quart lays up there. The pickup is in the back, and the dipstick tube is in the back. Suction through the tube would get most, but not all of the oil out.

        I misspoke. I change my oil all the time with one of those oil suckers and it gets it only out of the rear part of the pan, and that's what I meant to say. I should have said that it wouldn't get the oil out of the front part of the pan. Open mouth, insert foot. sigh.
