    Stupidity abounds

So I got new tires on the back of the car over the weekend, and today one came off while I was driving to work. Guess which side I put on? I hate when shit like that happens and I can't even blame anyone for it.

Not much damage, the wheel well trim is bunged up, one of the studs snapped, and all the lugnuts are gone. Picked up a new stud and lugnuts at Napa and installed them at work. Our POS impact gun doesn't have enough balls to pull the replacement in fully, but its there as far as I could get it standing on the breaker bar. The brake on that side is also hanging, so I suspect the backing plate got tweaked when the tire came off and took the drum partially with it. I'd go fix it now, but I'm waiting on someone to come pick me up to run a friend to the airport, so it'll have to wait till I get home later, by which time it will be dark. Yay.

I'm sorry to hear this, but at least it wasn't the front tire.

make sure you hit that lug with an impact gun soon... you dont want it to slowly work its way in more with driving forces and loosening the nut!!!
otherwise you might have a strong case of deja' vus...
        did I spell that right?

I pulled it in with the impact gun as much as it would go, then put the breaker bar on it and pulled it in some more. The impact gun we have at work is a piece of sh*t and hand tools do a better job usually.Still glad noone and nothing major was damaged. If that had let go on 95 it would have been a major disaster.

Did a shop put that wheel on? If so, they should pay for the bill to fix it.

I used to work for a national tire chain. Some of the guys were pitiful. I recall watching out the showroom window with the owner as a car was being driven out of the shop by a tech. The wheels were wobbling because none of the lug nuts had been tightened.

Sadly, I can blame noone but myself. I put that wheel on with the stock lug wrench, which is pretty much a piece of crap.

watch out, a bent drum backplate will blow out your wheel cylinder on that side. = no brakes

ask me how i know. twice.
