ugghh leak???

    ugghh leak???

    its dark out so looking under the hood was pretty much pointless put i pulled up to the local pizza shop tonigh and as im walking infront of the car i hear water hitting the ground under the car. it looks like its comming righ out of the middle/front of the motor. so i touched it and its a clear slippery oil, like brake fluid and its was leaking from where ever pretty quickly. yet my mastercylinder is full and i drove it home 1 mile and the brakes felt fine, though i didnt get on them, i drove like 10 the whole way.


    so why would brake fluid be leaking out of the middle right down the front of the oil pan?

    the line for the front pass side caliper runs on the backside of the front crossmember. if i were you, id replace the whole line from the perportion valve to flex line. not a big deal to replace that line that is leaking.

      check your tranny fluid

      cooler lines run over the crossmember. the crossmember is a low point. coincidence could be that there is a hole in the lines and the crossmember just happens to be where it is leaking.

      look at it in daylight. the color of the fluid tells all.

        What he said. Have a look underneath but the crossover line is the only thing in that area. There is a clip right on the crossmember, I'd bet thats where it rotted through. That line should be very simple to replace. The thing is, if that one went, the others are probably in bad shape. It also means your car probably doesn't leak much oil. The dry ones are the cars with rust underneath and rotted lines. My front line is original and shiny after I wiped the inch of goo off it.

        It could be some other fluid too, you really need to look at it during the day. Trans lines run across that area, rotted freeze plug could dump coolant down on the crossmember too.

          well its definatly clear

          so would this be a metal line or one of those rubber pieces

            could be either, but if your brake hoses are original I would replace them just because they are old.

              If it was leaking quickly at all like you say, Id think you'd know if it was brake fluid.
              Could it be coolant? Its feels a little slippery.

                could it be power steering fluid? getting any sort of a whine when turning? PS fluid is bout the only other clear fluid i can think of

                  ohh right, could be p/s. it has been making a bit of a wine

                  all my other cars are manual steer so im not used to even thinking about p/s fluid lol

                  its a clear slippery fluid, wasnt warm either, the heat was hot so i know i had the coolent warmed up. sun will be up in a few hours, i'll know for sure then

                    Well that would rule out the transmission fluid too since that should be warm too (if it's warmed up). Check the fluid level in the pump and see if it's low. See if it's the same color as the stuff on the ground.
