So since my valve cover gaskets are leaking and I'm gonna need to pull them off, I was thinking that while I'm in there I might as well put some better rocker arms on. Right now I have stock 88 HO rockers on a totally stock HO engine. What can I put on there that will not cause me valve to piston clearance issues? I was looking at a set of 1.73:1 roller rockers on ebay, but I don't want to buy something I can't use. I might also pick up a set of taller valve covers for clearance reasons and to fix the oil cap clearance problem I have with the reversed HO intake.

Look into a set of Scorpion Rockers they are better than the Crane Golds and they are only about $125 a set. I think 1.73s might be a little to big with an H.O. cam.http://secondhandracing.com/Home.aspx

Whats the stock ratio, 1.5:1? Would 1.6:1 be OK then? As you may have guessed, I don't know much about modding engines, especially "normal" motors. Only work I've ever done hopping up a motor was an aircooled VW mill. Did a mild cam, big valve heads and dual carbs on that one. Nothing major but it was better than stock.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

the rocker arms on all the late model V8 engines are the same. HO, non-HO, E6 or E7 heads. stock rocker arm ratio is 1.6:1.
1.7:1 rocker arms are available and were used on the 93-95 Cobra 5.0L engines. these rockers increase lift at the vavle by .030", so you can safely run 1.7 rocker arms with a stock HO cam with out any piston to valve clearence problems.
BTW, stock HO cam has .444" of lift, adding .030" makes it .474".2003 Town Car Signature - 3.27 RAR, Dual exhaust and J-mod - SOLD 9/2011
