    84 grand marquis voltage light keeps comming on!

    i replaced the altornator and the relay
    today i just had to change the altornator again but the light wont go out i attached the conectors the way that they were on the defective alt i wonder if it is wrong does anyone know what the problem might be? or have a diagram for the alt wit a external regulator 80 amp?

    i forgot to mention it is a 302 2bbl

      good to see another feller ontarian! anywho, have you checked the charging voltage after you put the new alt on? did you change the alt cuz the light was on? did you change the voltage regulator? if you give a lil more info, it would be better

          I smell a bad voltage regulator. have the alt tested at the local auto parts store

                  i will have to double check it
                  the alt gave out on me again today on my way to work i had to wate for my husband to help me push it off the road the car is to heavy to only have me push it.
                  origonaly i tested the volt reg and alt the alt failed not the reg i changed it after work outside and charged the battery and the light is still on

                        The alternator is still not charging the battery right? I think it's gotta be either wiring or fuseable links.

                        Just thought of this, how about a 3G swap? That would solve all your problems.

                          From my limited experience with 1G alternators, I'd throw a regulator at it anyway - they're cheap.

                            Hey, I finally found it. Barring any errors that no one has caught, this should be a simplified schematic for the 1G alternator circuitry:




                            And for if/when you decide to upgrade to a later style, here are the diagrams for the 2G (not a highly recommended swap) and the 3G (VERY highly recommended and popular swap).
