    1980 MGM carb Problems?

I just bought this car last month. I was about to get crushed. It has a 2bbl carb on a 351W. The car has only 112kms on it. The car is evil to get started and even though it has had a complete tune up it will run at idle perfect. as soon as you put it in gear it will stall. in part if you try to give it gas it caughs and dies. The carb dosent look all that dirty. but the car has been sitting a long time... is this likly related to the carb or is it more?

    any suggestion would be great!

If its had a tune up, I'd start with a fuel filter and a carb rebuild. If it sat, either or both are likely plugged up.

my 79 landau has the 351w 2bbl (not vv) and it sat for a while before i bought it, does the same thing. replaced fuel filter and not much better, i would put my money on the carb needing to be freshened up...

If it is the VV carb and not a 2 BBL they are notoriously hard to get the car started with...believe me ive been using mine for a year now, it takes good technique. However if when you give it gas it dies...definitely another problem, perhaps you may want to try to adjust the fuel/air mixture to see if your results change? be something to try before you rip it out to rebuild..

I don't think they used the VV in '79 ... though granted, I have yet to examine an American 302 car to make sure.

That said, I did sort of misspeak, as the Kanuck '80 probably does have the 2150 and not the VV. People do say the 2150 is a great carb, but the last one I messed with was hopelessly diseased. :p

Speaking of which, I wonder if this '81 Holley 2V I have sitting around is any good?
