    hard to start winter

    86 crown victoria converted to HO was really hard to get started this morning.. It fired right up but the idle was insanely low and it stalled a few times.. would you guys say thats normal despite being efi? i've never really had this problem before but it is only the second winter with the HO.

    With the lopo this thing always fired up no problem even in -10 weather.

    Is your IAC happy? Any issues with clogged injectors or low fuel pressure?

      Sounds like a stuck/bad IAC to me too.

        no symptoms of a bad iac all summer long, runs like a raped ape when its warmed up. maybe it's just the nature of the beast... its really weird when it starts up though its so quiet and almost like it's the bare minimum amount of air to keep it going..

        actually now that i think of it, it's just like when you start the car with the iac unplugged only its perfectly smooth.. it will gradually warm up and it starts to idle higher and higher until normal. hmmm weird.

          those are perfect symptoms of a non-working IAC, and someone messed with the "idle screw" so it runs. The car should barely idle with the iac unplugged, and it should increase speed with it plugged in. It should not idle faster as the motor warms up, if anything it should idle down. Target idle is something lke 670 rpm.

            I would also have a look at the ACT sensor. My car would never start cold until I replaced that sensor. The old sensor was real nasty. You could also try cleaning it and see if it does anything different.

              still not exactly sure what the problem is... the car runs freaking great when it warms up but it still does it, im pretty sure its the iac sticking closed and gradually unsticking. I took the iac completely apart just before winter and cleaned it real good, maybe i buggered something up.

              i'll let you guys know when i figure it out.

                Clean the IAC again. Just to make sure it's nice and clean again.
                While you're out there clean the ACT, it can't hurt.

                  Sometimes cleaning the IAC isn't enough, and you have to replace it. If that motor failed, its done.

                    Iac is working just fine.. there was some slushy moisture around the butterly, i cleaned it up and bumped up the screw a half turn.. not sure where the moisture is coming from but hopefully that should fix the problem for now.
