    Engine Swap Done!

It's done! Finally! And holy cow does this thing drive nice now. Love it! Grand total of probably 30 miles on it so far, but soon to be a lot more.

So... No questions, just wanted to thank everybody for their help in answering all my prior questions.

    Stats are:
    - freshened up 302 block
    - new crank, bearings, pistons, rings
    - explorer camshaft
    - GT40p heads
    - HO lower and upper intake (plus throttle body)
    - true dual exhaust (custom, and i don't want to discuss what it cost me but it looks clean!)

also went ahead and did the 3g alternator upgrade at the same time, added a transmission cooler, and added coolant temp, trans temp, oil pressure, voltage, and tachometer gauges.

car runs like a new car now! set the TV cable so it shifts into OD just over 50 mph. although with the miles the transmission has on it i dunno how long it'll hold up to the new powerplant. that will either be the next project or it'll be going through all the suspension bushings and replacing them.

only issue that we really faced was a leaking freeze plug (some radiator stop leak seemes to have cured that for now) and a massive transmission coolant line leak. must have stepped on it and tweaked it cause it leaked massively at the transmission. rebent the line closer to normal and leak went away.

    that is all, thanks again!

I'd like to see a picture of this motor... has to look good too, lol.

How much stronger does it feel with the new heads and upper and lower?

definately stronger, but by how much, i dunno. here is the problem, while the country squire was down for the heart transplant, i was driving one of my other toys.... my corvette...

      so... now everything feels slow.

it's got some kick to the wagon now, but definatly won't be winning any drag races still. what amazes me is the smoothness in everything. i had problems that i was attributing to the rear end or the transmission, but they self corrected with the new motor. real rough downshifting. lots of what i thought was driveline slop when i went from no throttle to some throttle on the highway. both of those conditions are gone. (not to mention the constant stalling and rpm fluxuations due to massive vacuum leaks and bad iac valve)

Cool. If you happened to replace any of the mounts, that could account for the lack of clunking and banging. Dead trans mounts make all sorts of annoying thuds and bangs.

set the timing at about 10 deg with that spout plug removed. is there a recommended setting for regular fuel or should i just play around with it and see where it starts to ping?

gadget - i did replace both engine mounts and the trans mounts while i was fooling around in there. didn't think of that, but your probably right, that's where my noise was.

10-14 is usually safe, depends on the particular motor really. Mine pings at 10, Scott's car runs like 16 without issues.
