    Weirdness

Ok, this is pretty weird. I start my car it turns over but runs really rough, I go to the tail pipe, Black Smoke. I though well maybe a vacuum line came off or something. I checked the lines but nothing. I went back into the car, and quick turned the key on then off before the engine would completely stop. Then it just ran normally, no rough running, and no black smoke. I thought it was a one time thing, but I tried starting it again and it did the same thing, black smoke. I did what I did before with the key and it cleared up again. What the fuck!? Of course the car pulls this shit right before I put it on the road. You guys have any suggestions to what might be the problem this time?

*Also, I think my battery may be bad, could that possibly be why that would cause the car to run like that?*

How long has it been sitting?

Could be bad gas, MAP sensor/vacuum, low voltage could possibly do it...also if it's been sitting fuel filter....

i've been moving it for a while, unbeknowngst to my parents. I've taken it around the town. Before that, the car was sitting for about 6 years, that was before the engine swap and what not. But my question is, wouldn't it always be smoking black then?

OK then, I'll start with a new battery for one thing.

MAP sensors do that when they go bad. Try pulling the vacuum line off the map to see if it makes any difference. Also, make sure the vacuum line to the MAP is sucking. I had problems with my car after an intake swap, and it turns out the vacuum pipe on the intake had a spider nest or something in it that was causing the map to not see vacuum. Spider nests go away with carb cleaner and stiff wire.

 I will look at the MAP sensor next since the battery is holding a charge...

Yeah, I'm going to say that it's something with the MAP sensor. Check the hose that's coming off of it as well to see if it's in good condition. I have yet to make an adapter fitting for my MAP since the fitting on the MAP sensor is smaller than the fitting on the other end under the intake.

The way I have it set up, I have it on a T. I have vacuum from the manifold. This T breaks into the hose for the canister purge and the MAP sensor. Both lines have been replaced.

no, you don't want it plumbed that way. The MAP should have its own dedicated vacuum line with nothing else going to it. The canister purge should have a dedicated connection as well.

When the car's on the road, I'll make a day of it to relocate the plumbing for the Map to the proper spot.

what you describe are classic symtoms of one or several fuel injectors leaking pressure when you turn the engine off.

could also be a leaking fuel pressure regulator.

But why would it correct itself by quickly switching the ignition off then on again? It will run smoking black all the time unless I play with the ignition.

Did a code scan on her the otherday. When the car is smoking black there is no feedback from the computer. When I play with the ignition, and it runs normally, it goes through the self test and flashes code 11, which is system clear. So, now I'm confused.

could be the ecm relay or the ignition switch are going retarded on you. Low voltage conditions at the ECM will make it not produce codes and do all manner of retarded stuff.
