    What tires are best?

    Dear Gurus,
    My main concern is high speed handling and I'm running Dunlop 235/70 15in GT Qualifiers on my '89 Colony Park. The Dunlops will do about 30K which is okay but I don't like them in heavy rain. Any suggestions?
    Next time I change tires I'm going to 16 inch wheels.

    my bro has goodyear triple thread assurance tires on his lincoln, and they are great tire, he can get some traction on ice!

      yokohama Avid S/T are good, as well as Firestone Affinity...those are the tires scott swears by..

        I agree, I like my Yokohama avid s/t's. They look tough mounted with the black letters on the outside.

          i prefer a H rated tire for high speed highway driving.......the firestone affinity lh30's stick like glue and last a long time.........unfortunately they are only available in limited sizes..........i run the 225/60/16's..........they do make a 215/70/15 whick is the oe tire size for our cars.........235/70/15 is a bit tall, and will affect the speedometer accuracy.
          as a compromise with larger tires, i would run the yokohama avid st's in a 245/60/15..........tirerack.com has them for 60 each...........if money allows, i would look for a set of 16" rims and go with the h rated firestones.......you will love to drive your car even more.........i have bridgestone insignia sl's on my crown vic (got them at the junkyard with the 96 towncar 16" wheels)

          1986 lincoln towncar signature series. 5.0 HO with thumper performance ported e7 heads, 1.7 roller rockers, warm air intake, 65mm throttle body, 1/2" intake spacer, ported intakes, 3.73 rear with trac lock, 98-02 front brake conversion, 92-97 rear disc conversion, 1" rear swaybar, 1 3/16" front swaybar, 16" wheels and tires, loud ass stereo system, badass cb, best time to date 15.94 at 87 mph. lots of mods in the works 221.8 rwhp 278 rwt

              I am using Cooper Lifeliner STE tires now. They handle good in the rain, and they are 70,000 mile tires. Another thing I like about them is the fact that they handle the heat a little better. With the softer Cobra tires, they would get slick as I began to puch them hard for more than 3minutes (also after long hot interstate drives too). The Lifeliner STE is a T rated tire too. Not an extremely high number, but the highest I've seen for a +29" tire for $75/per

                I've been running Kuhmo Touring A/S for almost a year now on my 91 GM with no problems. Good tire at a cheap price.

                  I use Goodyear regatta II's and I have found them to be very good and very economical. They are quiet and get great dry, wet, or snow traction. Best I've ever had.
