    Cam question

Found a 93 t-bird (5.0) at the junk yard this weekend, and 93's have a cobra cam. Would the engine just be bogged down and run like crap in an otherwise stock ho conversion?(minus cam-my bro's B-cam was flat on two lobes) I've taken a ride in a friends black 93 t-bird and it got some real nice low torque, though he has some minor upgrades.

So far as I know, all SEFI 5.0L Thunderbirds got the exact same "lowpo" cam and heads as '86-'91 5.0 Crown Vics, so for a performance build you'll be reusing basically the block, crank, and rods, and not a lot else.

The stock 5.0 Cobra camshaft wasn't really anything all that special, so I wouldn't personally go out of my way to find one as opposed to a '88-'93 Mustang GT cam.

How did your brother manage to wipe two lobes on a B303 camshaft? It's a hydraulic roller, and the lobes should in theory last forever unless the lifters suffered some sort of catastrophic failure ... or (*shudder*) someone tried to run the thing with flat-tappet lifters.

the MN12 cars were HO powered-at least the later ones....The cobra cam supposedly has more low end tq than the HO...

That motor should run pretty well,

All the MN-12 5.0L T-Birds are HO. Should be good for a panther HO conversion.

If i remember correctly on of the ford engineers told me the upper intake was modified to clear the hood of a bird and cost it 20 or so hp. ECM there fore might have a different calibration tthan say a ho mustang or mark 7

                +1.

Also, I hear the exhaust is more restrictive, killing off some of the 20 HP as well.

The 92-93 Tbird cam is the Cobra cam, which will give you a bit more low end torque compared to a regular HO cam. It would run fine in an otherwise stock HO motor, just don't use that crapass Tbird upper intake.
