Okay, in the next month or so I am contemplating replacing CFI with a good ole holley 4 barrel. My question is, If I replace the cam with a lunati voodoo cam and lifter kit(.483 intake lift and .499 exhaust, 213,219 duration at .050'' lift),and an edelbrock performer rpm intake, would a holley 750 cfm carb be too much for it. Also do I need a vacum secondary or mechanical secondary carb. I'm using the stock in tank pump so which type of regulator should I use, a return or a non-return. For ignition I know a duraspark distributor will work from a stick 84 stang, but I am thinking of a MSD 6al box so what changes must be made and how hard are MSD's to hook up. The big question is will it work when I go to start it (the ignition is bothering me alot). I know most of the parts I need such as lokar bracket, coil and other stuff, tell me if i'm forgetting something major. I'm gonna be busy this summer, Replacing the trans, carb swap, body work, And possibly a trac lock too.

Im telling ya you dont need anything more than 600. A 750 will feed a 460 pretty well. ABout the msd i dont know. I personally like vaccuum secondaries but ill let someone else speak on it.1989 Grand Marquis LS

Edelbrock 1406 and the lokar bracket and cable is perfect. Its not a high-rpm or stroker motor, so its all you'll need. The MSD isnt anything to worry about. You could even get away with the duraspark ignition module untill you started really modding the engine. Look into a 4x4 cam to get a lil bit more bottom end tq over a standard 302/351w cam.

I used to run a 570 Holley Avenger carb on my 1990 Mustang. It ran the same ETs with that carb after I tuned it as it did with a stock calibrated Holley 650 double pumper. I ran both carbs at the track the same day, back to back.
The tuning I did on the Avenger was a lighter secondary spring, only 1 size though and tunig to get it to launch from 4500 rpm. I put a bigger sqiurter in it and more importantly a pink pump cam. I doubt you will need to tune it with an automatic. Maybe the secondary spring.
I tried different jetting too, but the factory jets were within 2 sizes of the ones that I ended up using. Not much to gain there.

I think a mechanical fuel pump is the easy way to go. Phayzer has his stock pump replaced with a hose to pickup the fuel.
A 1" open plastic Moroso spacer gave me about a tenth or a little more on my combo. The stealth I run is about the same height as a Performer RPM.
I run an MSD 6al and an MSD timing computer with a stock TFI distributor. I have recently seen some steel geared HEI distributors for around $100. That would be the budget way to go. No MSD needed.
Summit sells some reusable valve cover gaskets for around $15.
If you have the scratch, maybe bolt a pair of Explorer GT40p heads on with the money you save from not running an MSD.

Welcome to the dark side!
All the above are good. The lunati Voodoo cam is a great cam choice for a mild motor. Like justin said, the 1406 would be your best bet.
I use a stock duraspark distributor with a MSD 6AL, and it works great.
If you have any carb swap questions, ask me.. feel free to PM me.
I did a lot of justins carb swap, and my own swap.
I think your heads would be good too.1983 Grand Marquis 2Dr Sedan "Mercules"

Are there any advantages to using vaccuum secondaries or mechanical secondaries. I'm considering porting my stock heads or doing the same to e7's, will the stock heads breathe pretty good with porting and more work. I figure with my shitty CFI that gets like 5mpg a single quad has got to be better than that. Will my stock in tank electronic pump work OK with a regulator. What do I do about a return for the regulator or dont use one at all.

Vacuum secondaries will only open when the engine is pulling hard enough to be able to take the extra volume of the secondaries being open. Mechanicals open in exactly the same spot on the throttle all the time, not dependant on engine load. Personally I like the vacuum secondaries. Sometimes mechanicals will develop a flat spot right when they open because the manifold vacuum drops too suddenly. Vac secondaries tend to open a little slower and it usually keeps that from happening.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Has anyone used a Barry Grant Demon carb before?, cause I found a Road Demon jr 625cfm, vac secondaries with ford kickdown linkage, for about $40 more than the edelbrock. Also what kind of regulator do you carb guys run, non-return or return?
