you will need a choke if it doesnt have one.

Or do you just mean electrical provisions for actuating the electric choke?

ok im not that stupid when it comes to carbs. my carb has an electric choke and at the moment it holds hte idle at 2k but ill probably lower it to 1500. the carb has mechanical secondaries and is a holley 4160 single feed, 650cfm. im also thinking of adding an idle stop so if i turn on too many electrical things the idle will stay a little higher.

the car runs fine and if you look in my "readers rides" thread i have a crappy vid of me driving it.

all i wanted to know is if it might be a good idea to ge a heat riser and if any of you carb guys have had troulbe in the winter without a heat riser?

no heat risers for me. choke, pump start idle, rev and rev, then drive

The heat pad is build into the intake usually. If its not there, you can't exactly add one, so its not really worth worrying about. Its a crossover passage in the middle of the intake that connects to each head. Exhaust gas passes through it to warm the intake to prevent carb icing. Later motors used that passage for EGR.
