HELP, i cant get the AC belt back on my car!

hey all im new to this board but Ive been on lincolns online and crownvic also. My problem is that i cant get the belt for the AC and air compressors back on. the tension seems to be too high to put it around the tensioner pulley then try and match up the holes to screw the pulley back in, and its too hard to bolt down the tensioner pulley then try to manuver the belt around it. how do you guys do it?

There is a 9/16" nut (if i remember right) on the back side of the plate that allows the tensioner pulley to be repositioned. It is much easier to access if you remove the smog pump permanently, but then you'll need a shorter belt.

take the bolt out of the back of the tensioner, pivot the tensioner so you can install the belt, and put the bolt back in and tighten the belt

There also should be a square hole that will take a 1/2" ratchet/breaker bar so you can tighten the belt up.

thanks for the help, i got it on by swinging my ac compressor down a bit and using a crowbar. Ill have to look for the pulley tensioner adj bolt, it sure looked stationary to me. I'm also going to do the HO conversion this summer, which i am looking forward to.

there is one on mine. i don't have the old one to take a pic of but its on the new one too. i think its between the pivot bolt and the tension bolt IIRC, you'll have to feel around for it. need a short extension too.
