I think I'm having converter problems.

Bit doggy off the line even with my 4.10 gears. I know my tires are huge but here is what puzzles me. Go to powerbrake the thing and itll start spinning em. Then it sits at like 2500 for about 4-5 seconds then starts spinning em faster and grabs 2nd gear. Now I havent held 2nd for very long to see what it does, But it acts like its locking up in 1st gear before it takes off. I thought these only locked up in 3rd and 4th. Unknown miles on the tranny. It was free and has no OD but is an aod. My old looked like it had diesel engine oil in it from all the clutch material.

Lots of things contribute to that, stall speed, the peak torque of the motor, how long it takes to overheat the tires... sounds normal to me.

:pw:. Nah but yeah it does sound normal to me too.

Its a factory converter for a box. Everything else Ive ever had with enough power to burn in more than once gear would just go through all em fairly quick.

Mine never did.... it'd burn 1st, shift to second, get traction then downshift to 1st again. Even my current setup does that.

Like I said it bogs while burning then revs up. I wish I had video of it. Even does it on dirt to some extent.

Mine does too, watch the burnout vid in the SF forum....it's the tires. Once they warm up they get greasy and spin easier, letting the car rev.

The converter cannot lock in first or second. Its mechanically impossible based on the construction of the converter, unless the turbine inside was somehow getting jammed into the converter shell and locking it up. You'd know if that were the case because the car wouldn't idle, it would be like a stick shift in first gear with no clutch.

I my burnout car, I do not have this issue at all, because of a few things. Its a 2.73 open (which makes a huge difference in the ease of a burnout). The rear brakes are also damn near worthless. It pretty much just explodes into a ball of smoke, and goes right into second gear without a hitch. However, until the tire has been spinning for like over a minute, it will bog in second gear. It will spin, but not as nice as it does at the top of first gear. I mainly like to hold it in 1 for the best effect.

My red car is a little different. I use to have problems with the rear brakes not working, so I adjusted them to hold almost well. Once I overcome the brakes and the fat 275, it will spin right into second gear, and keep going (I have never spun so long as to see if it would go into 3rd). The problem is, I now have issues getting it to break free, with tight brakes, fat tires, and a 2.73 gear.

If you are going to be doing brakestands all the time, its probably a good idea to just install line lock, and be done with it. I am thinking of adding that to my list.

I don't plan on doing it much. Rear tires for this thing are right around 100 a piece due to there size. I've got 7 spares but still. Just that and coupled with the fact it seems doggy off the line was makin me think it but its probably just the way Ive got the motor set up and the fact the converter is not what it should be for this combo.

Don't you have a Bcam ? Those things are not the torque makers the stock camshafts are.
