    overheating problem updates

Ok I just got done installing a 180* thermostat and a brand new waterpump and flushed out the radiator. All that changed with that was that it took a lot longer to heat up, but once the thermostat opened it steadily climbed 190-195-200-205-210. Then I just let her idle at 210* and she cooled back down to 200* and stayed there. So I took her out for a drive and it just kept rising all the way to 225* with no signs of stopping. Heat was on full blast, coolant full. Head gasket on backwards guys? or do I just need time, patience, and a mark VIII fan and dual core radiator?

not sure if this applies to all gaskets, but with Fel Pro head gaskets you'll see a tab of gasket material sticking out at the front corner of the motor between the head and block. Its right near the lower, front most head bolt. If you've got a tab only on one side, the gasket is quite possibly backwards.

The head gasket tabs stick out on both sides in the front, so it must be the cooling fan and radiator not up to par. I'll try the Mark VIII fan and a cooling flush before I change the radiator. It is a stock radiator, single core.....could that be it?

Just make sure you are using a good, reliable fan controller. Word of advice: The $35 controller from Autozone is shit. I had 3, count them three, fail on me. I overheated my stock 351 pretty bad on the last one. I currently have a DCControls 50-amp unit awaiting installation.

Well at least you corrected the problem before you could do any damage to the engine. How's she driving now?

I'd like to put a DCC on mine, but they're seemingly closed for business last I checked. I sent an email, but got no reply. I've got a cheapie wired through a pair of relays to handle the current. One 40 amp relay is definitely not enough, especially when you're talking Chineese amps.

They are not closed, they just changed the way they do stuff. I went here: http://www.dccontrol.com/0820.htm and surfed around until I came to the order page, then ordered, Paypal'd, and waited about 2 weeks.

I have 2 in parallel on mine, seems to work OK. The terminals don't get hot or anything. If you have a 70 amp constant duty relay that would do great, but they're a lot more expensive than 2 30/40 amp jobbies.
