Car wont turn up any RPMS

I had the car down to the track tonight. The first time with the C-4. It ran MUCH better then it did with the AOD.

Here is what my problem is tho....

I took it out to test tire sizes in the hot laps( just 5 laps around the track to get a good feel of the car) it ran pretty fast, but only turned up 5,400 and idle really rough. When I was done I pulled it in and checked under the hood and found that 2 plug wires had poped off. I put them back on, and went back out for the heat race. The car ran good again, I led every lap but the last one....the guy got around me. But it still only turned up 5,500.

It seemed to pull pretty hard down the track till it started getting near the end and it felt like it was breaking down, or it was hitting the rev limiter....

It has a lincoln MK7 comp, I thought the rev limiter on them was 6,250?

Does anyone have any ideas of what might be the problem? any thing I should check?

    thanks

Sounds like valve float. What heads are you running, and are you using stock valve springs?

gt40 springs, like stock explorer gt40 springs? that'll be your problem. You probably need better valve springs.

I was told that it has GT40 springs, I dont think they are the gt40p springs.

The motor pulls strong till about 5,500, and then kinda flattens out.

I dont know if its springs, fuel(wich i dont know how it has a new 255lph pump)......

the gt40 explorer springs sucked too. if thats what the springs are, it may be your problem. without knowing exactly what the seat pressure and all, its hard to say what it might be.

I didnt get a chance to check the valve springs yet, I am going to do that Monday or tuesday next week.

I did put a new coil in it, and changed the plugs tho just incase that could have had anything to fo with it....

I'm surprised it runs that high with gt40 springs.

40 or 40p doesn't matter, they both suck.

I can attest to that. Know what else I can attest to? You're gonna have to pull your entire wiper box/motor and A/C equipment to replace your valve springs if they're weak. Sucks, but there's not really any way around it. Ask me how I know.
