    idle adjustment/throttle srew/1st gear "clunks"

    one more question:

under the throttle body, there is a srew that is spring loaded. i know it has something to do with the throttle adjustment, but how do i adjust this thing?
if i srew it in, the idle rises, otherwise the idling decreases, untill the engine stalls (with the iac unplugged)
but how do i adjust this thing right?

btw... when the car is in 1st gear and i press the accelerator, the car "clunks" it is like you shift form n into D at higher idle...
i checked the fluid level and it was ok....

perhaps the engine idles to slow and so the pump in the transmission has not enough pressure to fix the st gear??

    thanks

You aren't supposed to touch the idle screw. There is something else wrong with the car causing that problem.

The trans, u joints, or rear gears could be worn/bad causing the clunk. Also motor mounts, and trans mounts.

ok... i have this noise since i´ve swapped the engine... perhaps is the rubber trans mount... it´s to weak... or the bolts... ok...

to the screw: do you know a recommended position of this screw? (how many turns i have to screw it in or out until it is in it´s original position?)

IIRC it was unplug the IAC, then mess with the idle screw till you achieve free idle speed of 600rpms (transmission in Park or Neutral, A/C off, all electrical loads off), then plug IAC back in.

Sounds about right, 6 or 700 rpm. But if there is surging, check for vacuum leaks and that everything is plugged in.

Right, no vacuum leaks should be present at all, and the only electrical component left unplugged should be the IAC.

target idle is actually something like 672 rpm, so the throttle stop screw should be adjusted somewhat less than that.600 rpm should do it.

                ah, ok, thanks a lot.

but i hear a hissing sound from the back of the engine, near the pcv vavle...
if i spray carb cleaner around the engine, nothing will happen... i think there are no leaks..

but first i´ll adjust the idling
