    Carb fuel line question

Oddball question: On the drivers of my 85 351VV side there are 2 lines coming from the tank... Which one actually picks up the fuel? Top or bottom? I know one is gas and the other is probably for the vapor [Cali emissions baby!] I do not think that it would have a return line. Both go the the engine mounted mechanical fuel pump. I will snap a pic tomorrow if anyone want to see what the hell I am babbling about...

Nobody knows anything about the fuel lines? lol I'll just tear it apart and figure it out I guess. Just trying to save some downtime...

I have both lines as well, and thought it was strange as hell for a carby car. I just got a pump without the extra fitting. I guess I got lucky on which line is plumbed in. Well, maybe not so lucky as even before the fuel leak, the car has always smelt of fuel.

"Oddball question: On the drivers of my 85 351VV side there are 2 lines coming from the tank... Which one actually picks up the fuel?"

The supply from the tank should be the larger 5/16" line.
The smaller 1/4" line is the return back to the tank.

VV carbed cars should have a fuel block on the intake just IFO the carb. This block should have a 5/16" from the fp, a 1/4" return line running all the way back to the tank, an electric sw., and a 5/16" line to the carb. These blocks had a tendency to leak with age, sw. went bad and were imposs. to find, rebuild kits are getting scarce, and the cure-all was to eliminate that block completely and to go directly from the pump to the carb.

And yes, that VV carb system should have had a return fuel line from the factory.

Look again. I think you will find that only the 1/4" line goes all the way back to the tank bypassing the pump, and the 5/16" line goes to the fp., then the carb.
Speed cost....how fast u wanna go??

It's not how much hp u have...
It's how much hp u can put to the track...

Let's seperate the men from the boys and put that power to the track using street tires and stock suspension components

'Tis infinately better to sit quietly and be thought a fool,
than to speak and remove all doubt.

Thank you, this info helps me. On my car both lines go to the fuel pump, with a single line running to the VV. I only have the pump still dangling, BTW. I must now use this newly found knowledge to run my Walbro inline pump.

I thought it could possibly be a return, as I would assume the VV to be somewhat pressure sensitive...
