    exhaust question

ok so my gf bought me a cherry bomb so i went to get it put in and when i went to a muffler place after they finished i was checkning my exhaust for leaks and while in the shop i saw that there is a twin pipe right before my catalytic converters the pipe is very thin and the problem is it makes my exhaust leak it is also very small in diameter the guy told me it is called breather pipe but when i went on the search for new parts i couldnt find it so i figured maybe you guys will know what that part is called. It is connected to exhaust pipes right before catalytic converters and it is rusted to the point that it isnt attached and i need some help since i know very little about american cars
    Thank you everyone

Air injection pipe. You can just close that off, it won't hurt anything. I hammered a pipe plug in mine and packed it with JB Weld when I had stock cats.

Those parts are obsolete from Ford. I bought two right side, and one left side tube from Ford about 4 years ago, and tried to buy more about 2 years ago. I used two new ones on my car, and one new one on my last car. I have seen alot of cars where they are pinched off/ closed up.

There is also high temperature hose you can use, but a lot of times the tube rots so close to the cat theres nothing to clamp it to.

It connects off the smog pump. You can either remove the smog pump totally, or just pull the pipe and leave the rest of the junk in place. It comes up on the passenger side of the engine and is attached to the short rubber hose from the bottom of the diverter valve with a hose clamp.

its a very common problem. every box I have ever seen had it. it's the car's way of telling you it don't like cats.

yea, as stated..you are hearing air being pumped thru the small pipe from a smog pump on the passenger side of the motor, just in front of cylinder #1.
