Top end Swap: Maf, Fuel pump & inj Q's...

I'm about to embark on a top end swap on my '87 Country Squire.

    Gt-40X heads, Explorer intake, 65mm T-body, Stock '87 H.O. cam & full dual Exhaust.

Do you guys think I will need to go Maf?

How about inj's, will 19's be able to hang w/a bigger pump & adj reg?

    or will I need 24's?

    Thanks in advance.....

With a stock HO cam you should be fine with 19# injectors. Those heads, hmm. It'll probably run OK with speed-density but if you have issues with it pinging, it may be going lean. If it does, swapping to mass air will probably correct that. Just be careful about upgrading the fuel pump too much, the fuel lines are only 5/16". You can probably get away with a 255 lph or so, but if you go with a monster pump its possible that you'll be trying to push more fuel through than the return line can deal with. The small line will also make the pump work harder and produce more heat. If you go with something around a 155 lph, it'll handle it fine.

          Thanks for all the input....

As far as the heads go, they are leftovers from a head upgrade on the race car... valves are 1.94/1.54, not overly large? I also have a trac-loc & set of 4.10's waiting to go in (They should help to get it moving)....

It's not going to be a race car, just a fun to drive car to haul the family around in....

It baselined 11.60 In the 1/8 (self shifting in OD). We won a few rounds & a trophy LOL...

                  What I've heard...

So I am in the process of doing a similar set up. The 19lb injectors are all I am going with. They are good to support 300hp. Any of the guys that decide they gotta go 24lb on Fords have crappy fuel economy ang rich burn issues unless they are balls out running.

Why the Ford cam though? I am looking for a grind, but don't know what to pick. I want to keep the roller cam for sure, but I want to get better crusing torque. Any suggestions?

I scored a 93 Thunderbird from some skill center kids. Complete engine and harness. They lost the ecm and kept the 5.0 badge off the top, but a good deal for $200 with the trans included.

Tell me what not to do. ;-)

                    Fuel pump

BTW... I have heard that the fuel pump in the panther is the same as what is in the trucks with FI. If if fed 460's I bet it'll do for about any 302, but the part numbers aren't the same on the autozone. Anyone shine light on that for me?

Don't be cheap. Buy a new pump.
Do you already have a HO SD ECM?

From what these guys all say the Explorer cam is good for low end torque, works better then the HO cam in a heavy car like a Panther.

The saving me from buying a fuel pump comment was about the 460 Question, if that is true, then I don't need to replace it...

The comment about "Because I aready have one ....." was about the cam, & I don't want to deviate from the stock H.O. one because I want to stay SD....

No, I haven't scavenged an ecm yet. On my Grand Marq Wagon, I used a MANUAL trans ECM & have an idle prob...
