    A/C went BOOOOMMMM!!!!!!

And I don't mean a little "pffftt", I mean I though I blew out a tire until I smelled the unmistakable aroma of R134A. The low pressure hose that runs from the compressor to the acumulator blew off the acumulator. and the rubber hose at that end of the connection swelled up to the size of my fist. What really adds to the confusion. is that I was NOT using the A/C at the time. The only thing I can think of is that the 134 ate through the R12 hose. Thankfully the hose only set me back $55. and I should have my A/C back online tomorrow. Anybody else ever have. or heard of this problem before??

I'd check the AC clutch might be stuck....I've never seen or heard of th 134 having any issues with R12 hose. The AC also runs with the defroster...

Yes it does. but I wasn't running the A/C. or the defroster. 80 degrees, dry, and sunny. Like you, we're on the downside of a nasty heatwave, and yesterday was the first day I didn't need the A/C.The compressor is fine. I even jumped it out, and let it run for a sec, just to be sure. The only thing left is the fact that the hoses are original, and after 19 years, something had to give.

Odd, never heard of one of the AC hoses exploding like that before. Leaking at the crimps, sure, but not blowing up. If the AC had been running, it wouldn't have blown there anyway. Thats a low pressure hose. If it was gonna pop anywhere from pressure, I'd suspect the liquid line or the discharge line out of the compressor, not the suction hose.

low side hoses usually don't leak unless a hole is rubbed in it. even then it's never catastrophic. also 134 doesnt eat through or cause any damage to r12 hoses. the hoses are made from the same materials the only difference is hoses meant for 134a have a layer of barrier material in them to keep the refrigerant from seeping past the rubber.

O.K., guys, quick update. Replaced the hose, and then went down to the shop that does the A/C for our busses. The guy there told me that the hose blowing off is more common than one would realize. The hose, and the spring clip that holds the hose to the filter/dryer both failed due to fatigue. He vacuumed diown the system, and recharged it for me. Now I have nice, cold A/C again

The locking spring failing I can believe, you should replace those any time the ac hoses are seperated. The O ring kit comes with new ones actually.
