    Heads Q

    E6 vs E7s...

what are the main differences? valve size? port size? CCs?

and can E6s be made to use Roller Rockers just as easy as E7s?

and...could one swap say E7 heads and 1.7 RRs onto a lopo motor, not changing cam and keep the stock ECU and 14lb injectors with no problems?

I was just thinking if I was to find a really cheap box to drive as a DD I would want to experiment with it and get it to pull nicer but get the best mpg possible.

The E6 head was Fords first attempt at a high swirl/fast burn cylinder head for the 302. The intake valve ended up being shrouded which hurts flow. Power is down compared to either the E5 or E7 heads. This combustion chamber design is the most significant difference between the E6 and E5/E7 heads.
Rocker fitment and other external dimensions are compatible...
Don't bother changing the heads unless you are going to feed them more fuel (ECM/Injectors). If you want mileage, and "pull nicer", just keep your E6 heads and swap in a set of gears.

What he said. Primary difference is the combustion chamber. Most other things are the same. That high swirl makes for more torque, but poor higher RPM power.

        ah ok. just wundrin.
I thought I had read that if you swap heads or cam, in either case you would have to swpa injectors and ecm.

so a full HO convo would be the way to go.
with my 3.55s, duals with shorties and a HO upper(stock cam, heads and injectors/ecu) I was able to run 1699 in the 1/4mile and get anywhere from 16-18mpg city and 21-22hwy.

I would imagine that if I had 3.27s instead hwy would be better.
but I am curious about mpg with 3.08s...don't sound liek they would be too well of an improvement over 2.73s.

now..GT40 heads are teh ones that have bigger valves aren't they?

the cam, injectors, and ecm go together. the heads aren't directly related. 1986 HO used e6 heads.

GT40 heads have larger intake AND exhaust, GT40P have larger intake only. The exhaust port is more efficient, so you get comparable flow out of a smaller valve. You will not see much MPG improvement from 3.55 to 3.27. A more significant improvement for mileage is a slower speed. The faster you go, the more wind resistance. A combination of lower wind resistance and lower RPM can give marked gains.
