Lets see the carb was never jetted right, no headers, timing was never dialed in, is the throttle opening all the way yet, if the throttle was fixed the secondarys were probably opening too soon, how about the stall speed. Did you ever torq brake the trans off the line. Going to the other intake is perty much a waist of ported heads.

I am running the victor efi on mine with the cobra rockers now ...fuel economy is up timing is up to 16 or so initial. Realy kicks in if shifted manualy.

Still prob nees a chip and would run better. big issue might be the delay on power enrichment on the 93 cobra ecm its like 8 seconds vs 2 for other models. So if i was you getting the rest straight then try the vr again. in town i am getting 18 to 19 mpg.

Just went to the spot were I test acceleration often. The distance from before turning the corner at the light to the sign I gage to is 2 tenths of a mile. How the run is made I make the turn onto the road keeping it in low lightly accelerate to 20ish and nail it ..then shift into drive. Then let it wind out and note the MPH crossing the sign. I figure the actual run is between 1 1/2 tenths to 1 3/4 tenths of a mile. At the last run Creamy was running about 66 to 68 when passing the sign. Shifting into third takes place at a bit over 65.

If I were to hold the gears manualy the L..D ..L shuffle speeds would be up conciderably. Want to mount a tach before doing much of that fear of over reving stops me the engine dosent want to quit.

carb is going WOT and it was tuned with the disty to get awesome throttle response and the jets were changed as well.
The mang tuning it had a lot of experience in race motors...I wanted to keep going to Gerry but this other guy really knew his stuff as well and was closer.
car was running great but always came to the same problem..car does not really move until 3500rpm every time.
the advance on teh disty got it jumping off the line really quick with just slight throttle but does not move worth beans until 3500rpm..so by the time it clears it's throat and moves, it only moves about 2000rpm and has to shift.
granted, after 3500 it spools a lot quicker, but not moving until 3500 doe snot work mang.

Gerry was saying that it might need a different heat range on the plugs..I gotta find out what mine are.

but the Summit Manifold does have a drawback...as you predicted Dave...it is great for off the line torque but it takes way too long to spool up and it just ain't pulling like the Vic Jr at higher rpm..feels like it has lost a good 25+hp. i love the fact that I can feel it thrusting me in the seat for most of the rpm but it's top end ain't all there.

better headers will be going on in the next weekend or so...whenever I get time...I know those are a restriction in my case since the heads are made to really flow and the stang shorties aren't made for that...good improvement over manifolds but restrictive for ported heads.

I'll be going back to the dragway on July 12th so we'll see how much faster it is.

but I'll meet ya halfway Dave and go with the different manifold you suggested.
I was thinking of just having the Summit one ported but Gerry says it would be too pricey being a dual plane...like 400bux..ugha no.
so the other manifold is ordered and on it's way..if the weather cooperates teh next few weekends, it will be on by the dragway meet.

Maybe the BHP heads are lacking in port velocity? You need a 351 mang!

i have to wonder if its not the cam. Isn't that basically an E cam? They don't really come alive till around 3500 either. Might need to consider swapping the stick out for something with some low end grunt to it. I keep thinking I want to go with an XE258 and possibly an intake change. I have something available to me that ought to out-flow the Explorer intake and will allow me to use a stock upper for a bit more velocity through the intake.

yea it's an E Cam..which is good for my application
                  .498" lift and 220* duration at .050" lift...powerband is 1500-6000rpm
the crate motor 302s that have comparable heads in flow and valve size all use the E cam.

My friend had a '91 Tbird with a 5.0 HO. It was a fairly modded car (3.73's, a retarded shift kit/ trans combo, full exhaust, some head porting, etc, etc). It had an E cam, and it didn't even start to pull until 2500. After the tach rolled past 2500, it would really come on strong. Below that, it was a real pig.

oh wow...so I guess I shouldnt be surprised if it dont pull wicked on the low end.
but the advance on the Disty helps low end a lot...throttle response is crazy good.

oh..the purpose of painting the bottom is to help cut down on engine temp..or at least keep the intake slightly cooler...I dunno if it does much but can't hurt.

Ford letter cams blow...E cam is the nicer of the bunch but it still sucks. Plenty of aftermarket cams to do much better.

BTW, its a dog off the line cause the car is 4000lbs. Gears and more converter would greatly benefit you.

I plan to do the WR AOD buildup instead of swapping my R&P again...that will do it.
but I can't expect gobbs of power from a 306.

I think Magna will breathe easier with your new exhaust. It may not improve power drastically but I think it'll be noticable. What size will the new exhaust be, and what mufflers are you running now, those Summit Chambered mufflers?

right now it has the stock HO shorties, catless duals 2.25" to Summit Chambered muffs then 2" to the bumper.

with these new headers it will be catless duals but 2.5" all the way with Hooker Aero Chambers and Dynomax Bullets.
