spark plug angle is different on the p heads they never used p heads on a production car.....only the explorer

Because you need to use spark plug wires in order for spark plugs to work....
Seriously.... there is no room for the wires on a couple of cylinders..

Couldn't you just use longer plug wires instead of different headers?

There is not enough physical room between the plug and the header for the plug wire to attach and not be pinched and melted by the header. Besides, why would you go through the trouble of changing heads and them force those heads to breathe through the straw like passages of factory Mustang headers?

Because a number of mangs (such as lincolnmania) have installed them on P-headed applications and found them to work. Do some Googling at random; he's not the only guy saying that. Hell, we use plenty of stuff not made for Panthers in the first place (Mustang H-pipe, S-10 midpipes, Impala tailpipes...); don't let the nominal OE application scare you away!

ford racing used to make two sets of shorty headers but they only make the ones now that fit gt40p heads because it's a popular head for a mustang......they also fit other heads too

I have owned both sets and ran them on my Mustang/Capri. The current set rightly replaced the older set which will not work with P heads. The current set gives you more room for getting at the header bolts. As Scott said, they work with all factory Windsor style SB heads.

Even using the P headers with regular heads is great, I hear doing things like tightening the bolts is much easier.
