Ok I have been having no problems with this thing until just now right at the beginning of show season. I went to start it this morning and it started fine. a couple of hoursd later i go to start it and it ran for 2 seconds and cut off. It would turn over fine but wouldnt start. I replaced spark plugs, wires, distributor, and coil. I verified a am getting spark. I replaced the fuel relay and checked all fuses but i dont hear the fuel pump coming on. I am afraid it may be the fuel pump but i want to check and see with you guys if there is anything im missing or anything else i can check. thatnks.

nice car man, now daz how you flip a vic. but to answer your question, what ive tried
before was jumping some wires where the relay plugs in. get a 12v light and see which wire is hot when you turn the key on, mate it with the ground and you should here the pump run non stop. by the way, (ASSUMING your car wiring is still stock) the positive wire should be the thickest of the four and the ground would be the same. Now, my car is an 85 so the wiring might be different someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but if the pump doesn't turn on with this method, might be time for a new fuel pump Good Luck1985 Ford LTD Crown Victoria-4 Door-Burgundy on Burgundy-Rust bucket.

you should hear the hum of the fuel pump kick on in the tank when you turn the key on. it will be on for 1-2 seconds than shut off. sounds like it is the fuel pump to me. i would get a fuel pump, the strainer/sock, get new "O" ring for it... i would also get a new float and "O" ring for that while you have the fuel tank down. just checking real quick though... the relay you changed was the greenish one? the greenish colored one is the fuel pump relay and can get confusing since there are a few located in the holder where it is and people can sometimes get them confused.

Check the ECM relay and fuel pump relay connectors. They're all up there together on the driver's side behind the washer bottle. Fuel pump relay is the green one, one of the others is for the AC, third is the ECM. I forget which is which though. The wires get crusty and nasty, half the time the insulation is crisped off and the connectors get green and fuzzy. The pumps don't die all that often, I'd be willing to wager its a bad connection rather than a bad pump. The connections are less work to check anyway so its a good first step.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

thanks guys. Yes i did change out the fuel pump relay(green plug). I have checked all the wires for good connection. the wiring for tyhe car is all the original except for some of the engine wiring. The engine is the HO 5.0 out of a mid 80s mustang. but i am getting good signals all over there. I assumed it was the fuel pump, i just didnt want to crawl under that big bitch and drop the tank. especially considering the weight of this car.
