what do you define as the fuel sending unit, the part that makes the gauge work, or the pump? I've seen people refer to both as the sending unit before.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

hello, just had the exact same problem, well not the pump but the gauge wasn´t working properly, so i took it out from the tank and it was a bit corroded or oxidized, searched all over the autopart stores and internet sites with no luck, decided to go to the local junkyard and got another one for 10 bucks, just give it a good cleaning with a non abrasive solvent, take apart the cover that protects the resistor so you can get to it, its very fragile, i used lemmon with baking soda on the older one and it came out like new.
Hope this helps a bit : )sigpic 1981 LTD one owner
