*Update* I used Dad's Vacuum tester on the car today. I hooked it up the unused capped side of the check valve where the where it splits to the cruise and the down to the smog pump. The car held a nice steady 20 Hg and increased with idle. So far it seems everything there is alright and there's no major exhaust restriction even with the cats as they are. Regardless, they're rattling like crazy and need to be changed. I think the check valve I tested off of is bad, but I'm also thinking I could replace it with a one-way one? since the smog line is gone and that port us just capped off now, perhaps that will also fix the cruise control which isn't working. I still need to check out the coffee can for leaks and look into replacing some vac lines. The one going to the Map is pretty tired looking. The other two cars we have with the same brand of Cats that were rattling, a 91' Park Ave and 90' GMC C/K just had loose heat shields where with mine, the catalyst is loose.

If you look around in the smog plumbing thats not hooked up, you should fine a regular one-way without the T piece in the hose between the T and the smog pump itself. I believe its around the area of the passenger side valve cover. Thats what I used on mine to get rid of that extra line. Cruise works fine, so I guess its acceptable.
Check things out with a vacuum pump, you might make enough vacuum with that motor to not have anything show up on a vacuum gauge. Since your climate control goes wonky, I'd start with pulling vacuum on the vac tree and see what it does.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Thanks, that sounds like a the perfect thing to do and since I'm weird and save every single thing I take off the car, I still have the piece you mentioned. I was also looking at different threads regarding the $28 coffee can and wondering whether I should change it over to the plastic box. I still have to test the other one to see if it's even leaking but it's something I'm keeping in mind. I'll have to admit I'd sorta miss seeing that thing, makes me laugh sometimes.sigpic

If I'd realized how much the stupid thing would have cost, I'd have swapped it to a plastic one. Maybe the globe from a GM product, just because it looks equally silly.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).
