You want the least amount of overbore possible. The machine shop will tell you what to get. Don't put the cart before the horse.

Also, just a mention, bumping compression to try and make horsepower with crappy heads isn't likely to give you the results you want. Premium fuel, 11:1 compression, and heads that don't breathe are just going to make for something thats expensive to drive. You'd do better with good heads and 9:1 running off regular fuel

Not taking gasket volume into account .... cylinder volume is 568cc ..... so 568cc/58cc = 9.8:1 compression .... right? No, wait, it would be (568cc+58cc)/58cc = 10.8:1 .... though that would mean 9.4:1 with flattop pistons with no valve reliefs at zero deck ....

      guess that doesn't take into account the piston dish that produced the heads' original 8.3-8.5:1 CR, does it .... so (568 + 69 + dish) / (69 + dish) = 8.5 ..... meaning 637 + dish = 8.5 dish + 586.5 .... so 50.5 = 7.5 dish, or dish = 6.73 .... so I guess the original pistons for those heads would have had about a 6.73cc dish on them.
Of course, its just simple math...

i gotta tell ya, i couldnt read 1/3 of that without getting a headache lol

What are you looking to do with the car when its done?? Could you run a flat top piston??

Those D8OE heads came out in the 70's even worse the mid to late 70's when low compression ratios/and power numbers were the status quo. It would be better to get some GT40 heads or E7's..Those heads would flow way more and would bring the compression ratio you will want.

If youve got the coin RHS makes some great low cost cast iron heads for the SBF.

Will you be running a carb on this setup if yes then a NOS sniper kit should work perfectly for what your trying to do. Its a NOS quality kit with a dirt cheap price tag. I run the EFI version of the kit and I love it. As for the trans a Transgo shift kit and switching to a synthetic trans fluid will help you a bunch.

He said it's done. As in...done. As in...it's already running. You did notice that this was a four month old thread resurrected yesterday, right?
