    Quick Question About CAI.

I've seen 91LTDProject's '90 Acura Integra (I think it was an Acura) CAI made to fit for a box CV. However, why wouldn't a 1st gen. Lightning CAI fit on a box CV. Aside from the Mass Air part being in the way, couldn't the CAI be modded to fit in a box CV? They are pointed in the right direction right? Though the routing would have to be exact though.

Just figured that I'd throw that one out there. I guess if I weren't so lazy I would get a 45* angle pvc and then run straight to the front of the car.

there are some stupidly priced air intakes out there.......mrltd has the nicest setup if you ask me and it looks stock......2004 pi tube, mk8 maf and a marauder airbox......if you dont need the maf just use a piece of pipe in its place

Kid I know just spent $400 on a K&N CAI for his S10, plus he paid ~$50 to a guy to install it. I promptly called him an idiot and told him I could've built him one and installed it for an eighth of that.

www.spectreperformance.com has a modular CAI kit. They send you all these angles and pieces of pipe, and you build one using the kit. Then you send it back and they make you a one-piece polished aluminum (IIRC) CAI with a cone filter based off of your design. I think someone here did it... I remember hearing about it. Pretty cool IMO.

              Here's mine.

              GMN Thread

Works excellent, looks good, and was cheap to make.

Only thing is you have to relocate the Rad overflow tank/washer reservoir, not hard though.

Haven't got around yet to buying a small washer reservoir and relocating it, it's on the list though, lol. Just gotta find one small enough to fit somewhere hidden.

I'm not trying to be a post whore, my computer restarted for updates after the last post. I'm using this $7 elbow and a $5 PVC pipe that is 3"x2'. I got a used '86 Mustang air filter last week for $30 and I cried and bitched to K&N (probably didn't need to) about how I lost the brackets that go with the old air cleaner. So they sent me the shiney/new brackets for $40. I spent a little money I guess, but a whole kit would cost $175 plus S/H. I believe the PVC will deliver cooler air than the 3" exhaust pipe because it won't heat up as much. The elbow is also a lot smoother inside than the ribbed stock elbow. It probably won't look as pretty as the others I have seen on this site, but it should work. I'm gonna get to installing that tomorrow. When it's all said and done, I guess 17s should be within my grasp lol.

Believe it or not, that horribly ugly stock intake works very well from a performance point of view. Its just ugly as sin and right in the way. There really is no gain from changing that intake, other than appearance and accessibility.

I'm also running the late model stock parts arrangement these days. I removed the butt trumpet air silencer, but thats it. I got rid of the silencers on the Mark VII and the S10 as well. Not sure how much it helped, but I can hear the motor now, and it cost $0 for what *might* be a performance improvement.

                            Is that on your towncar?
And if so, do the CV/GM have it as well?
                            Pics?

Yeah, the CV and GM have the air silencer thing. Its a 90+ Towncar and 92+ GM/CV thing, boxes don't have it. Don't have any pics, but if you remove the lower airbox from the fender you'll see it. Its a plastic thing that sticks out the front of the air box. Give it a good yank and it will pop out, leaving you with a somewhat larger air inlet opening. I'm not going to claim it helps much, but it sure can't hurt.
