    Carb To CFI (WTF Why?)

Sorry I have been gone for a while, I have moved to a crappier neighborhood and have been trying to get shit situated recently. Been kind of a fucked up situation lately but I won't go into that.

Okay, on Saturday May 10, 2008 in between 12:00AM and 3:30AM my Lincoln was broken into, actually I left the doors unlocked, and the dash was all butchered up and crap. They just stole my CD player and Crossovers for my component speakers. The thing that pisses me off the most is the crossovers because they are specific to those components, and they did not even take the speakers. So I am going to have to order another set of crossovers for $40 shipped. They didn't go in the trunk and get my amp

Anyway, I am broke as fuck. I have not had my LTD running for about 7 or 8 months. So I am going to start swapping over all of the CFI shit to get my LTD running right. Then I plan on parting out the Lincoln. I am going to grab a lot of goodies from the Lincoln too .
    - Auto Headlights
    - Power Trunk Pull
    - Door ajar chime
    - Carpet (I have a shampooer)
    - Seats (may not use them until I get some extra cash to get some new leather)
    - Rear End (3.55 )
    - Trunk Carpet
    - Trunk Walls (unsure if they will fit)
    - Tires (they are damn near new)
    - Visors
    - Windshield Trim
Will the interior trim pieces swap over? I am talking about the floor trim, headliner trim and C pillar trim.

Heated Mirrors and maybe make a switch. Just remove the glass and cut the wires?
    All teh CFI Shit

So far I have only dropped the gas tank, which took about an hour.

I am going to see if I can reuse the fuel lines, hopefully I can. That would make me a happy boy. I am unsure how to remove the fuel lines. By looking it goes over the frame rail above the rear tire, then goes down to the filter. I didn't really examine where the brackets are that hold the line in place. Also the inside of the Lincoln's gas tank looks brandy new. I may clean up the outside and paint it Ford blue.

The thing I think that is going to be the hardest is removing the wiring harness, any tips on that. Or any tips on anything else you guys can think of that I did not mention?

Also if you guys want/need anything just tell me and I will do my best to keep fair prices and crap.

How is doing a CFI conversion going to magically make it "run right"? If you can't get a carb to function, do you really think that you can get CFI to function??

Point there; I've thought for quite a while now that the most expedient way to get a poorly-running lowpo in shape was to add an EDL-1403.

Sorry to hear about the potentially-disadvantageous move, BTW.

1403 is the 500 cfm w/ electric choke? I wish I had gone with that instead of the 1406.

This car is already carbed? VV? It really doesn't matter which carb it has on it now. The point is that its very easy to swap on a different carb setup. I wouldn't even fart around with other 2 bbls. I get better gas mileage with a 600 cfm 4 bbl than I did with my factory carb (VV). You can find a Professional Products, or used (hell, even new) Edelbrock intake for a SBF with ease, for cheap. Its a direct swap; everything is very easy. You'd need to get the Lokar TV cable, and probably the bracket and throttle cable; but the installation is very straightforward. Plus, the Edelbrock carbs are very easy to tune and adjust; I have been very pleased with mine. I got my setup done for around 500-600 with all new parts (except for the EGR plate), and I retained all my emissions garbage as well.

I don't know much about CFI, but most people run away from it, either swapping to a carb, or EFI. Never heard of anyone swapping CFI onto a car though...

Conver to 4bbl, convert to EFI, or don't do it at all.

If it was Chevy TBI then that would be acceptable, but from what I hear Ford CFI is a disaster and if anything gotten away from.

I say fuck what all these other guys say and do the CFI swap. There's nothing wrong with it as long as it works right.

Honestly, if you just want the car to run right with the least amount of hassle, fix the carb. It will be a whole lot easier than doing a CFI conversion. De-smog the motor, rebuild the carb, and it should work fine.

Sorry to hear that about the Lincoln.

Don't do CFI. If you wanted it to run really nice, you could put EFI in it. And since there isn't a big wiring harness you have to get rid of now, it will be easy.

Factory Holley 2V, pretty sure. Should be just like the one still sitting on top of my 255.

You think your throttle response would be a good deal better with the 500cfm version? I've pondered the same thing, and am half tempted to swap my 1403 onto the wagon for a while just to see how it performs. What's annoying is that the only material difference seems to be the primary boosters that have more material around them, choking down the primary flow a bit, but I have yet to find a place to purchase just the boosters so you can convert a 1406 into a 1403. Come to think of it, that property probably makes a 1403 work a bit more like a Quadrabog with its tiny primaries and big secondaries than the 1406 does.

I think the 1403 would provide better throttle response, but I'm not certain. Seeing as my engine operates at such a low RPM (sub 4000), a 600 cfm carb is probably way overkill. However, I've never actually calculated it to know for sure; just a feeling I get.

Well good news, the other day my friend called his brother-in-law to see if he wanted to buy the motor out of the Lincoln for $50. He said he was cool and already had bought a 302 about a month ago. Then they got to talking and I ended up getting a free aluminum 4bbl intake today I called my mom and asked her for a loan to get a 4bbl carb to put on this she said that was fine.

The part number reads RF-E3ZE-9425-F. I Googled it and didn't really find anything about it though.

Okay, I was talking with my friends brother-in-law and he is suggesting i get a Holley carb. If I do, I already have all the linkage shit to hook up to AOD tranny from my old 2bbl Holley, and he was telling me it will bolt right up to the new carb. To save some cash I was also thinking about getting manual choke and swapping over the electronic choke stuff from my old carb too. I am going to have to hit my mom up for a loan and the cheaper the better. Rebuilt carb from JEGS? Should I go with 600CFM?

Also I just noticed today the Lincoln has front disc brakes, I am hoping to swap over those and rear gears soon
