Can you adjust timing to improve gas mileage for a specific driving condition? IE.. I plan to tow for 500 miles steady 55 on the highway. Is there a timing that will optimize that? Realizing it would affect other conditions adversely.

not really no...
you could bump the timing up to get a tad more power and fuel economy but you might end up having to pay for premium gas.Give a man a fish and he will be fed for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will promptly forget that he once did not know, and proceed to call anyone who asks, a n00b and flame them on the boards for being stupid. -
you do not want to increase it with that kind of load... It'll just knock on regular gas.
The old MSD setup on our bronco had a knob to adjust timing on the fly... That was nice.Builder/Owner of Badass Panther Wagons

Ah, those wheels will be fine. I've seen more than a few "small wheeled" trailers stuck on the side of the road with the wheel bearings bruned up.
