Can you adjust timing to improve gas mileage for a specific driving condition? IE.. I plan to tow for 500 miles steady 55 on the highway. Is there a timing that will optimize that? Realizing it would affect other conditions adversely.

not really no...
you could bump the timing up to get a tad more power and fuel economy but you might end up having to pay for premium gas.Give a man a fish and he will be fed for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will promptly forget that he once did not know, and proceed to call anyone who asks, a n00b and flame them on the boards for being stupid.

you do not want to increase it with that kind of load... It'll just knock on regular gas.
The old MSD setup on our bronco had a knob to adjust timing on the fly... That was nice.Builder/Owner of Badass Panther Wagons

Just drive 100 whilst towing (provided the trailer wheels are appropriate diameter; high speed= not good for small wheels). That way, you don't need to worry about economy, or getting run over. And think of the time saved.**2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302: 5.0/ 6 spd/ 3.73s, 20K Cruiser

Ah, those wheels will be fine. I've seen more than a few "small wheeled" trailers stuck on the side of the road with the wheel bearings bruned up. People fail to realize that smaller wheels may spin at the same angular velocity, but they have a higher tangential velocity.**2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302: 5.0/ 6 spd/ 3.73s, 20K Cruiser
