    Try this one on!

I've got a knock and I do mean a knock. Not a "click", a "tap" or any of those other little weenie noises, it's definitely a knock. The only time I can hear it is at idle. I can't hear it at speed, it doesn't seem to get any louder.

Now, a few days ago, I had the alternator off to have it checked, and while putting the belt back on, I noticed the PS pulley will move in and out anywhere between a quarter and a half inch!

Now, I KNOW I need a new pump, but I was wondering, you folks think this might be my "knock"? or should I start looking for a crank kit?

I know I should do the stethoscope thing, but thought I'd get some opinions in here first, so I'd kind of have an idea where to start.

+1 just make sure the car is reasonably cooled down before this as you will have no water pump.
