After getting rid of the smog pump...

My smog pump pulley just quit and I removed the pump.(it isnt legally neccesary in Saudi anyway.) Can someone tell me the belt size in inches or its Motocraft part number to turn the A/C compressor only ? Can the existing belt be used by adjusting the position of the tensioner pulley?
    Thanks

Old belt is too long no matter what ... but you can always measure with a piece of string to get you close. Thankfully, when I did that a few years back the parts guys were pretty understanding about my need to try a couple different belts before calling it good. On my car I had issues with the wrong side of the belt contacting the tensioner pulley afterward, but guys here say you can either get a grooved pulley from something like a Cougar or else work it so the smooth side of the belt is still against the pulley.

Now you can yank the rest of the smog system and plug the 5/8-11 holes on the back of the heads and cap off the air injection tube on the exhaust!

Scott, what brand is that belt? or is it universal for all

Doesn't yanking the air pump cause the cats to clog.

It won't burn as hot or as clean with out the air pump. Which give enough time could clog your cats but thats just sounds an excuse to hollow out your cats if you ask me though. At least thats what I would do

The air pump's only purpose in life is to warm the cats up faster by injecting air. it makes the exhaust catch fire in the cats so it warms. Once the motor has been running for a while it dumps air back to atmosphere. Run the car 15 minutes and they're as warm as they're gonna get.

The 560k6 is a general part number. 56" 6 rib belt. There are a couple numbering systems, I think 560k6 is the Dayco system. Goodyear uses a slightly different scheme but anyplace should be able to cross it over to whatever numbering system they use.

Weird! So that's seriously all the whole Thermactor system does, and it only really does anything for the first 15 minutes or so of engine operation? Seems to me that having the pump belt-operated with no clutch like the A/C pump has would be rather inefficient, then..........

Basically, yes. It starts off injecting air into the heads, then shuts that off in favor of air to the cats. It does flip a little air in there from time to time while the engine is running, but not much. Once the motor is hot it can't really pump air in because it'll cause combustion in the converter and overheat the cats. Its also a very small amount of drag, not enough to bother with installing a clutch on.

I assume each stage of its operation is dependent on engine temperature as monitored by the ECM?
